As a little girl,

I was encouraged just enough to see the dreams

But not enough to believe they could be for me,

And isn’t that kind of worse?

Dangling the possibilities just out of reach

Only being a cheerleader for others to succeed

Sometimes

I believe I am more than I am.

Sometimes

They believe I am more than I am.

But the truth is,

I shall always fall short

Of less than I am capable of.

I’m learning to make mistakes.

I was never taught it was a part of life

I grew up learning it was a crisis,

Something you can never take back

Always on your record

To decide whether you’re good or bad.
